Description

160 Seeds (1 OZ) certified organic GLASS GEM Heritage Native Corn seeds; heirloom non-GMO; Zea mays – Glass Gem is a stunning variety developed by Carl “White Eagle” Barnes, a part-Cherokee farmer from Oklahoma – Originally selected from crosses Carl made from several Pawnee miniature corn varieties and another Osage variety called “Greyhorse.” – Kernels are amazingly beautiful, in a complete range of translucent, multi-colored shades. – Sturdy plants grow 6-8′ tall and produce an abundance of 7-8″ long ears. – The kernels can be popped or ground into flour. Extremely productive. – Germination rate 98%; tested 11/18/2020 Let us restore a small piece of Native American Heritage starting from our own backyard!!!  Need more seeds? 1/2-OZ packet has about 80 seeds; 2-OZ packet has about 320 seeds. Corn is wind-pollinated, so plant in short blocks (i.e. rectangular matrix) rather than long rows so that ears fill out with kernels. Rows should be spaced 18-24″ apart; sow seeds 6″ apart. Cover seeds with 1″ fine soil. Typical germination rate 5-10 days when soil temperature is 60F+. Do not plant too early, perhaps wait couple weeks after the last frost.
